Lock Snapping

Published 30th January 2015

It is estimated that over 22 million doors across the UK could be at risk from a method of attack where the lock cylinder can be broken in just five seconds.

What is lock snapping?

Lock snapping is a common method used by burglars to break into a property that has a euro cylinder fitted to the external door.  All UPVC doors are fitted with a euro cylinder. Lock snapping involves snapping the lock cylinder in two by applying force to the cylinder.

What is the solution?

Option 1:

You can upgrade your door handles to a pair of ‘Secured by Design’ security handles.  The security handles have solid aluminum back plates that provide added strength and resistance and feature a rotating cylinder cover to protect the euro cylinder against attack.

Option 2:

You can fit an Anti-snap euro cylinder that is specifically designed to combat the issue of lock snapping.  The anti-snap cylinder has been designed to snap when attacked in a predetermined position leaving the center locking mechanism intact and still working in the locked position.
